Kabuki theater has remained for centuries one of Japan’s most dramatic and colorful storytelling forms.
Professor Kanesaka will introduce authentic Japanese kabuki and will perform scenes in su, i.e. sans makeup and costume, and he may even teach the audience how to do the same!

Japanese Tea Ceremony
with Tanjiro and Nezuko
Tea ceremony is an art form going back centuries in Japan. Elmar Schmeisser has been studying chado, or the way of tea, since 1975, staying as true as possible to the traditional style of the 15th and 16th century. Joining him as guests will be Zach Aguilar (Tanjiro) and Abby Trott (Nezuko) and see two of your favorite guests experience a traditional Japanese Ceremony.

Ikebana
Japanese Flower Arrangements
Executive Master, Valerie Eccleston, will demonstrate modern ikebana arrangements adapted for contemporary lifestyles. Professor, Bruce Wilson, will demonstrate classical ikebana arrangements which evoke all of nature and its relationship to humanity.
Arrangements will be on display on the L-Street Bridge and outside Room 154.

Join Chin Hamaya Daiko and learn about craftsmanship, tradition, and the making of Taiko drums.
Chin Hamaya Daiko has been teaching this style of drumming for more than 10 years and welcomes anyone who is interested in learning no matter the skill level!

Join Capital Area Budokai again this year as they bring a variety of their martial arts school to demonstrate and teach those interested. We have Jodo, Batto Do, and Kendo schools all joining us this year.
